Proverbs 16:31
The
hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
A
hoary head means a head with grey hair.
This proverb is telling us that age is a crown of glory. There is a condition though. This age must be accompanied with the way of
righteousness. If someone lives a long
life in rebellion to God and in the bitterness of their own thinking, the grey
head is not a crown of glory. When we
meet an elderly brother or sister in Christ who is living for the Lord, we had
best stop and listen. They have a
perspective we do not have and their counsel and observations are highly
valuable. They have seen the faithfulness
of God and know the brevity of life.
They know they are close to seeing the Lord face to face and their
insight is rooted in eternity. Lord,
bring us those saints who will give to us perspective and wisdom rooted in age
accompanied with righteousness.
