Proverbs 25:11
A word
fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
When a word
is fitly spoken it is an appropriate word at an appropriate time. We have all experienced at one time or
another when someone said something that just hit the spot. Maybe it was a perspective or a scripture or
even a casual comment that addressed just what we were going through. Some commentators believe this is referring
to the carving of apples of gold set in a filigree setting of silver. The golden apples would stand out upon the
backdrop of silver. One year my husband
saw some ‘golden apples’ at a store.
They were made of brass but such was our budget. He then bought a silver colored tray and
brought them home. He set them upon our
coffee table and instructed us that this would be a reminder that our words
were to be fitly spoken. When I would
walk by this visual I would submit my tongue and the meditations of my heart to
the Lord. I would ask Him to help my
words stand out in a beautiful way and be placed by the Master Craftsman. Lord, we ask You to be the Craftsman who
would take our words today and place them right where they would be best
set. Let the words of our mouth be
acceptable in Your sight O Lord and be beautiful to all those who hear
them. Be glorified in us through our
speech today.
