Proverbs 21:19
It
is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry
woman.
Here
is another verse for us women specifically. How precious of the Lord to give us
specific wisdom and truth. I take it as
having a personal spiritual trainer! The
word dwell here refers to the place someone resides. Our families do not need us to be contentious
or angry. We do not have the liberty to
let it all out on them. They are not
punching bags given to us to take our best shots at. In our homes, above all other places, we must
aim to have that sweet and gentle spirit which is of great value in the sight
of God. When a child leaves his toys out
or our husbands forget a bill, anger will not produce the environment in which
these behaviors can be transformed. We
have every right to share our frustrations in a kind way, believing that God is
at work in all of our lives transforming us day by day. People don’t have to change on our schedule
to our standards. We should give those
consequences to our children but with love and a desire to train them, not to
torture them. We should be able to
communicate our insecurities about the unpaid bill but with a desire to
reverence our husbands not to reprimand them.
We could drive our children far from our homes and our husbands to close
down emotionally if we continue to contend and insult them. May our homes be a place where goodness and
grace dwell richly in the knowledge of Him.
