Proverbs 26:20
Where no wood
is, there the fire goeth out:
so where
there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
Wood helps
a fire continue and retain its strength.
When there is conflict and strife between people we can help put it out
by not telling others about it. A tale
bearer is one who repeats what happens to another. By not talking about the conflict we can help
diminish the strife and put it out. We
might be tempted to tell someone and pull them into our world but we are told
here that this will only fuel the fire of strife and division. The next time we want to tell someone the
details of some conflict, maybe we should envision a wildfire and reject the
temptation to speak.
