Proverbs 24:21-22
My son, fear
thou the Lord and the king:
and meddle
not with them that are given to change:
For their
calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
Our lives
should be under the authority of the Lord and those who are in authority over
us. Part of determining the will of God
for our lives is to be concerned about pleasing both – the Lord and the
king. These are consistent sources of
boundaries, commitments and works. If we
hang out with those who are given to change we risk sudden calamity and perhaps
ruin. There might be a friend who tries
to lure us away from commitments we might have in ministry, in our home or job
place. These people want change and they
always have a new idea and try to pull us away from the consistent, unchanging disciplines
that produce lasting and remaining fruit in our lives. Meddle not with these people. Rather, fear the Lord and the king.
