Proverbs 6:30-31
Men do not despise a thief,
if
he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
But if he be found, he shall restore
sevenfold;
he
shall give all the substance of his house.
Sometimes
dire straits can tempt a man to compromise his standards. Whenever we find ourselves hungry for
anything we can be tempted to go after what we think we need without waiting on
the Lord and taking it in a wrong way.
If we believe we are hungry for love we could very well enter into
relationships that are designed to throw us into a prison of insecurity. Just
like a thief is caught for breaking boundaries of honesty, he is confined to an
even stricter boundary than the law that he violated. We must remember that our thirsts and our
hungers are totally met in our Maker Himself.
Jesus is the bread of life and Jesus has the living water that causes us
to never thirst again
If
you have taken anything that doesn’t belong to you, you must seek to make
restitution. Have you borrowed something
and lost it? Did you break something
that belongs to someone else?
Bountifully restore it.
Looking
at the previous verses we see the Lord contrasting a thief versus an
adulterer. Here we see that a thief can
restore what was taken and give the substance of his house to make things
right. Things can be given back. Trust
is not such an easy thing to restore.
