Proverbs - Prudence with a Stranger

Proverbs 27:13

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger,
and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

In business matters the Lord wants us gentle as doves and wise as serpents.  We do not get into a business matter with a stranger and trust them without some sort of collateral.  The money we have been given has been given to us as stewards.  Stewards are managing someone else’s money.  The money we have is the Lord’s and we answer to Him for how it is used.  We have every right to check into someone’s credit score, work history and reputation; even if the person says they are a believer.  The book of first John declares over and over again that many times a person will say that they are a believer when, in fact, their lives disprove this.  If someone is insulted with your inquiries when they are a stranger to you, be warned.  No one who is doing right is afraid to come to the light.  Be wise, dear sister.  Do not be simple and gullible.  If you do not know someone’s character you have the right to research.  Do not be deceived into thinking that searching out truth is a lack of faith.  We are to place our faith in God alone.  People are allowed to be scrutinized especially in business dealings.
