Proverbs 18:6-7
A fool's
lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
A fool's
mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
Sometimes
our children can be foolish. The Lord tells us that “Foolishness is bound in
the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” (
Prov 22:15) When our children speak in a
way that begs to argue or contend with authority, there should be consequences
and instruction. If we don’t correct
these things, we will contribute to the destruction of our children. If we are careful to catch these things they
might very well avoid some traps that may be set for them down the road.
Of course,
not only do our children need help with this but we, as women, need to be
sensitive to the ‘strokes’ of our Father when we are contentious. A contentious woman is a difficult person to
be around and our Father, who loves us as dear children, will be faithful to
correct us when and if we get like this.
We don’t want to destroy our marriage, family or another person’s
heart. Let us ask the Lord to help us be
sensitive to His strokes of correction if we are being argumentative or
unreasonable. Let us cooperate with the
discipline of the Lord so that we can avoid unnecessary destruction and snares
for our souls.
