Proverbs 19:29
Judgments
are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
We have
seen a bit about scorners the last few days.
Let us review some of the things that the book of Proverbs has to say
about being a scorner. Remember, a
scorner is one who mocks at things and takes serious things lightly.
We are
scorners when we aren’t willing to take in a rebuke and let it work in us.
·
Prov 13:1 A
wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
We are
scorners when we are looking for an answer for something but truly only for
that which we want to hear and not objective wisdom itself.
·
Prov 14:6 A
scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that
understandeth.
We are
scorners if we only want to be around people who tell us we are right and we
don’t desire a good challenge to our ways.
·
Prov 15:12
A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
We are
scorners if we are proud women dealing in anger with people.
·
Prov 21:24
Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
We are
scorners if we tend to be illicit contention and division in groups of people.
·
Prov 22:10
Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach
shall cease.
A scorner
causes human relationships to be ugly and full of repulsion.
·
Prov 24:9
The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
Let us take
a look at these warnings and take heed that we be not scorners. If we know someone else who fits this
description, we now know how to pray for them.
Pray for them to not be a scorner any longer.
