Proverbs 19:27
Cease, my
son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
Cease means
to stop what we are doing. Is there any
sort of instruction you are receiving that can cause you to err from the words
of knowledge? There is instruction that
is good and there is instruction that is not.
When we choose books, television programs, movies, friends or other
sources of input, we must know whether the instruction we receive could cause
us to err from the words of knowledge.
Sometimes we may have to submit ourselves to a drought of input from
familiar sources and over compensate with good, godly input. Then we could add one at a time and see what
sort of impact each source has on us. Do we feel frustrated? Does this sort of entertainment choice leave
me feeling hopeless after I watch it? Does this music start to motivate me to
spend time and money on things that don’t really matter? It is very important that we have the input
that produces the character of Christ and the quality of life that walking in
the words of knowledge produces. Cease
to hear any instruction that causes you to err from the words of knowledge and
be aware….new instruction can sneak in at any time.
