Proverbs 14:31
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his
Maker:
but he that honoureth him hath mercy
on the poor.
There are people who take advantage of
the poor for their own gain. There are
many liquor stores in depressed areas knowing that the plight of poverty has
driven many to drown their sorrows in intoxicating drink to forget their
present state. Drug dealers hoping to
attract new addicts and dealers infiltrate the impoverished streets of certain
areas knowing that a quick fix or quick money will be attractive to those who
have the financial pressures that are well beyond their abilities to
overcome. Yet, in these areas, we find
Christian ministry. There are food banks
and soup kitchens seeking to bring some sort of relief and aid to those who
struggle. When we seek to help those who
are hurting we have mercy on the poor.
The Word of God tells us Proverbs 11:17 that “The merciful man doeth good to
his own soul…” Godly women are
to be adorned with good works. Is there
some sort ministry to the poor that you are involved with? Perhaps an opportunity will come up soon and
you will have an opportunity to show mercy and do good to your own soul.
