Proverbs 14:23
In all labour there is profit:
but the talk of the lips tendeth only
to penury.
Women have the gift of gab generally. We like to talk and communicate. This is a great relationship builder. We can get inside someone’s head and heart by
talking with them and sharing a great heart to heart. The problem is that sometimes our lips are
talking when our hands should be working.
We are susceptible to staying on the phone when the dishes should be
done. We might stand outside our
children’s school gabbing away, when we should be at the market getting things
for dinner that night. We might be
instant messaging a friend of ours when the laundry ought to be tended to. Here the Lord is warning us that if we always
talk about what needs to be done we might end up in poverty. This poverty might mean a day with nothing to
show for it or even a lifetime of struggles and empty handedness. The Lord gives us a great promise in this
verse. He tells us that in ALL labor
there is profit. If we just rinse that “sippee”
cup or wipe down that mirror, we are already ahead. Sometimes as moms we can feel if we didn’t
complete everything to a certain standard that we are behind. The Lord tells us in this verse that our
conclusion is not true. If we do any
sort of labor, there is profit. So, let
us be careful about talking when we should be working and be reminded that
whatever we do put our hand to do, we are profiting our household.
