Proverbs 23:6-8
Eat
thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye,
neither desire thou his dainty meats:
For
as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:
Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but
his heart is not with thee.
The
morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
Sometimes
we can be flattered at some sort of invitation to dinner with someone of
influence. Haman was so flattered to eat
with the King and Ester, he had no idea what Ester had planned. When we are with people who have possessions
or access we don’t have, we can be blinded to the potential for compromise or covetousness. If we are someone who forgets the importance
of character and integrity and are easily impressed by delicacies we need to
stop and realign our value system to the Lord’s. These people often use what they own to
accomplish their own agendas. We can
become used by them as well. We must not
be hypnotized by that which appeals to our comfort. We must be in a place where we are alert and
aware. We must be cautious around those
things that bring us great delight. This
will help us not regret our reactions and conversations in the midst of
delicacies and enjoyment. We won’t have
to live with regret if we maintain the same standard of conduct in any sort of
environment.
