Proverbs
22:22-23
Rob
not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
For the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled
them.
We
should never take advantage of the poor.
We should never add affliction to those who are already going through
it. God wouldn’t tell us this unless there
would temptations do so. How might you
ask would one be tempted to do such a thing?
A televangelist could be tempted to take the impoverished condition of
some of their followers and promise them riches as long as they send in what
little they have for their ministry. A
drug dealer could offer free drugs to the afflicted to give them temporary
relief bringing them into addiction and adding to their affliction. Although these are obvious, I am sure that
the Holy Spirit could reveal to us how we might be tempted to disobey this
command. The Lord will plead their cause
and He will rob from those who have robbed them.
