Matt
6:15
But if ye forgive not men their
trespasses,
neither
will your Father forgive your trespasses.
The Forgiveness of Your Father
Jesus
is speaking here and He makes quite the statement. He is very clear. If we do not forgive people of the offenses
and sins they have committed against us, our heavenly Father will NOT forgive
us your sins. This is very heavy. This shows us that our Father takes
forgiveness seriously and He has the choice and right NOT to forgive. Jesus represented the Father perfectly. Jesus is letting us into the knowledge of our
God. A friend had once made this
statement about forgiveness and it really hit me. “How many of us would turn to God and say, ‘I
want you to forgive me and deal with me, the way I forgive and deal with people
who sin against me?’” This is quite the
challenge, isn't it? The Father spared
nothing to make forgiveness available to us and He is abundant in pardon. Forgiveness is valuable to Him and He
intends for those who have been forgiven to walk in forgiveness towards
others. Our Father is a forgiving Father
and will NOT forgive those who do NOT forgive others – a heavy statement, but
true.
