Proverbs 27:23
Be thou
diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
A shepherd
needed to know what the state of his flocks was. He had to be diligent. He needed to know if all his sheep were
accounted for as well as the physical condition of each. We are often put in charge of people like the
shepherd is given the sheep. If we are
moms, our children are our flock. If we
are over a classroom, the students are our sheep. If we are over people at work, they are our
sheep. We must not be lazy in knowing
the state of our flocks. We must look
well to our herds. As we pray regularly
for those we care for we will be sensitive to their needs and strengths. Do you know what each of your children is
struggling with? Are you keeping your
eyes open to those you oversee as to where they might need encouragement or
direction? Lord, give us the diligence
to really know the state of our flocks and that we might look well to whatever
herds you have given us.
