Gen 3:21
Unto Adam
also and to his wife did the Lord God
make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Earlier we read in Genesis 3:7, “And
the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they
sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” Adam and Even had a sense of vulnerability,
shame and desire to be covered. They
sewed fig leaves together. Creative?
Yes. Enduring? No. What was going to happen as the day to day environment took
its tolls on leaves that would lose their softness and become brittle and
dry? It was a temporary fix that would
not meet their need to be covered. The
Lord took animal skins and made coats for them.
He made the covering with a material that is durable and only gets more
comfortable and suitable as it is worn.
When we find ourselves in a place where we have overstepped the lines,
God desires and is prepared to clothe us with enduring material that can
weather our day to day lives. Let us
look at a few things He wants to clothe us in:
Isa 61:10 “…. he hath clothed me with the
garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness…”
Eph 6:11 “Put on the whole armour of God…”
Col 3:10 “ And have put on the new man….”
Zech 3:4 “… Take away the filthy garments from
him….and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.”
Rev 7:9 “….stood before the throne, and before
the Lamb, clothed with white robes….”
Isa 61:3 “…the garment of praise for the spirit
of heaviness;…”
When we find ourselves in a place
that we have blown it and realize our shame, remember it is God who has the
covering we need.
