Proverbs 19:2
Also, that
the soul be without knowledge,
it is not good; and he that hasteth with his
feet sinneth.
Impulsiveness
is not a good thing. The Lord is warning
us here that if we are hasty with our feet we will end up sinning. This is tied in to lacking knowledge. It is important that we gain knowledge before
making decisions. When we make financial
decisions, relationship decisions or ministry decisions, we should get
knowledge and then move as led by His leading and not in haste. Sometimes salespeople will try to convince us
that we must purchase now or it could be gone.
We need to thank them for this warning and walk away knowing that the
Lord is in control of our lives and He may even have something better than
their offer that is asking us to be hasty with our feet.
One time
when I was younger, I made a hasty decision to go on a trip with some
friends. This resulted in a relationship
being developed that was not God’s plan for my life. I wasted time and suffered unnecessary damage
because of my impulsiveness and desire for adventure. When something seems to be tempting us to be
hasty we would do well to walk away and spend some time with our God who is in
no hurry and has the knowledge we need to make good decisions that result in
life.
