Proverbs - Poverty is Better Than Dishonesty

Proverbs 19:22

The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

When we don’t have everything we would like it can make us humble and grateful.  We appreciate the food someone might make for us, or maybe the time someone spends with us.  When we are lacking certain things we desire and are content with where we are, we are tender to those who may not have certain things and will look out for how we might meet those needs.  The lack of anything we desire is a good place for us to be. This leaves us dependent on the Lord as our Father and keeps us in a place where we are asking Him for certain things and then trusting His final decision on the matter.  If we go about getting things we desire through wrong means, God says that it is better that we would be without than to lie and get what we want.  We cannot fudge numbers on loan applications, we cannot represent ourselves falsely to get a job, we cannot milk the welfare system to get more than an honest compensation and we cannot misrepresent our situation to get pity or attention that we may desire.  Let us rejoice in the lack of certain things we desire today knowing that the Lord can use this to make us kind and patient with others and let us be adamant in representing only the truth in all our financial dealings.
