Proverbs - Ascending

Proverbs 14:4

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:

and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

It is interesting to note that the Lord is dealing with backslidings in heart.  Our heart represents our focus and affection.  To protect ourselves from being filled with our own ways of backsliding we must be sure that our hearts are going towards the upward call of God in Christ.  Our affection must be set on the things above and our value system should reflect the worth of eternal pursuits and judgments.  In our hearts we must hide His Word and in our hearts we must be making a melody to Him.

This will protect us from sliding back, in our hearts.

If we were to be roller skating up a hill we would slide back under two conditions:

·        If we were not skating upward, leaning into the hill

-or-

·        Standing passively on the incline not moving at all

We need to be women who are ascending to the hill of the Lord.  We need to be people who lean into the ascent.  This approach not only prevents us from sliding back, but lends itself to progress and growth.  Ladies, let us be women who seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness knowing that, if we have Him before us, we will always be heading in the right direction.
