Proverbs 16:18-19
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty
spirit before a fall.
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with
the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Humility is something we are
responsible for. We are told over and
over again to humble ourselves. Like a
helium balloon, our old nature keeps pushing us up in our own estimation of
ourselves. It is better to be of this
humble spirit. It is better to be with
people and in environments that don’t exude such grandeur than to be in place
where people praise themselves. The Lord
keeps telling us in this book of wisdom what is better than something
else. We would be wise to believe
Him. When we are stubborn or consider
that we deserve something, we are setting ourselves up for destruction and
falling. If we are already on our faces,
we cannot fall. If we are on our faces,
He can lift us up. Let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God in
order to have Him exalt us.
