Proverbs - Don't Overstate Your Abilities

Proverbs 25:14

Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

When interviewing for a job or making ourselves available for a task, we should never overstate our abilities.  We will be like clouds and wind without rain.  Farming communities look to the clouds and wind as sources of water to help produce strong and healthy crops.  Those who hire us or use us will look to us to produce the skills and talents we have stated we have.  Let us be clear and honest with our experience and skills when others are looking to us to hold up our end of the bargain.  We don’t want to boast of a false gift.  Let us be plain and truthful in our assessment of our abilities.  If we are unsure of these things perhaps we could ask those we have worked for what they see as our strengths and weaknesses.  This way we can represent ourselves in a way that doesn’t leave room for us to feel overwhelmed by the expectations of those we serve.
