Proverbs 21:21
He
that followeth after righteousness and mercy
findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
Righteousness
is something to follow after. This means
that righteousness leads. As we seek to
pursue doing that which God says is right we are on our way to finding life,
righteousness and honor. The other key
ingredient in this verse is following after mercy as well. Mercy is being able to extend favor when
judgment might be more appropriate given certain actions or attitudes. When we follow what is right we most likely
will face opposition and the results we would like may not always be evident in
the situation. We must have mercy on
those who respond as such and continue to follow what is right loving those
around us who may challenge or oppose us.
If we can focus on doing what is right and not expecting others to do
the same, we will find life, righteousness and honor. Sister, take heed to yourself and have mercy
on those who might do otherwise. Keep
your eyes fixed on Jesus and the works He has foreordained for you to walk
in. Get your eyes off of others and run
your course with fervor and focus.
