1 Sam 25:26
Now
therefore, my lord, as the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the Lord
hath withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with
thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be
as Nabal.
Abigail was used to prevent David
from shedding blood. This verse tells us
that it was the Lord, Himself, that prevented David from such ruthless actions
that might very well have affected his kingdom later when he held the throne or
even when his sons held the throne.
Abigail did not take credit. She
gave the glory and credit to the Lord.
She saw the hand of God on matters and was quick to tell David that it
was His God who did this. Our God is
longing to work through His people to save people from hasty reactions. If you and I feel prompted to say something,
consider the fact that it may really be the Lord wanting to use us in a
situation. It may be the Lord wanting to
deliver someone from a hasty or damaging reaction.
