1 Sam 25:28
I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine
handmaid: for the Lord will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my
lord fighteth the battles of the Lord, and evil hath not been found
in
thee all thy days.
Abigail was talking to David
and trying to turn him away from attacking her husband and all he owned. David was insulted by Nabal and on his way to
repay evil for evil. Here, we see
Abigail explaining to David that the Lord will make David a sure house. She was reminding him that it is the Lord who
fights the battles and that moving out in self preservation or pride is not
what makes a king a king. She declares
that the Lord will establish David’s reputation and not the strength of his own
arm. The Lord knows who we are and we
don’t need to defend ourselves. The Lord
will establish us as we seek to honor Him and make choices that reflect our
faith in Him and His Word. Later, the
Lord deals with Nabal in a way that leaves David guiltless and without innocent
blood on his hands. The Lord will make
our lives sure and established. Let’s
back out and watch the Lord trouble those who trouble us. We must focus on forgiveness.
