Matt 15:16
And Jesus
said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
Peter was
asking Jesus about the meaning of a parable.
Jesus asks him this question before Jesus explains it to him. It almost sounds like Jesus is a little
disappointed that Peter wasn’t able to grasp what the Lord was saying. The Lord is asking many of us if we still
lack the understanding He wants us to have.
He desires for us to grow up in all things and will question where we
are with the intent of seeing us mature and gain understanding of whom He is
and what He means. The Lord went on to
explain these things to Peter but was hoping Peter was beginning to move beyond
the cold, clear, letter of law and into a place where he could pick up on the
warm, permeating, heart of God through the Word. The Word tells us to lift up our voices for
understanding. If we don’t understand
things, we can go to the Lord and He will explain them. As we do, we will begin to know His heart and
be quicker to understand His ways. He
wants us to handle His Word skillfully.
