Luke
2:48-50
And when they saw him, they were amazed: and
his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy
father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that
ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? And they
understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
Jesus
never sinned. Jesus did all things well,
and yet we see that His choices made His parents worried and sorrowful. This shows us that when others are worried or
upset about our choices it doesn’t deem our choices wrong. The responses of others to our choices are
never to be used as the only
criteria for whether our actions are sinful or not. Jesus chose to discourse with the teachers of
the law in the temple and his parents were put in a place of worry and frenzied
search. We can learn from this about our own choices and the choices of others.
It is very important that we remember that when others’ choices upset us, it
doesn’t mean they have sinned against us.
Jesus’ actions affected His parents but He did not sin against
them. This should help us in our
relationships and instruct us in being able to allow others to be upset with
choices we have made even though we have not sinned against them. Sin is determined by God and not by whether
the actions upset us or not. We need
truth in our lives and not allow human responses to determine whether something
is wrong or right in God’s eyes.
