Proverbs - Adultery

Chapter 6:24-29

 To keep thee from the evil woman,
from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart;
 neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
  For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread:
 and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife;
whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

            As a woman we can look at this verse and learn how not to be the evil woman.  Here we see this evil woman flatters with her tongue and uses her eyes to get attention.  We must resist this ‘natural’ instinct within us and seek rather to operate from the ‘supernatural’ instinct of Christ who now dwells within us.  Our words are to bring others’ attention to the Lord and our eyes are to be lifted up from whence comes our help.

            If you are single, you don’t want a man who lusts after your beauty.  You want to attract a man who may admire and be attracted to your beauty but he needs to see that meek and quiet spirit of the inner man.  If you get a man by flirting and flattery, you may well lose that man to the next evil woman who has perfected the game a little more.

            If you are married, know that sexual sin is lurking at the door of your life.  You cannot even entertain the thought of an adulterous relationship as something to be toyed with.  Here we see that adultery is likened to hot coals.  Hot coals burn, singe and scar.  No one will get away with this sin.  The Lord promises that.  Children suffer, mates carry the wounds of betrayal beyond mere years and if either adulterer is a believer, the gospel is disgraced among a world that so needs to be drawn to its truth and beauty.  If you find yourself attracted to another man, pause and bring it before the Lord.  Thank the Lord for this man and all of the wonderful qualities He has put in him.  Then go on and bless his marriage, family and children in prayer. Move on and thank the Lord for your husband, children and home.   If you have lusted after this man, confess it as sin and ask for cleansing and renewal of your affection and thought life.  Do not panic!  Trust that in your confession you will be walking in the light and His Spirit will search you and convict you of any compromises within.  Take every thought captive to the Lord’s obedience and ask Him to show you how to cooperate with His fight for your covenant relationship.   Enjoy life with your husband and invest everything to guard your marriage from even the slightest smoldering coal of this horrific sin.
