Matt
14:13
When
Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and
when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
Jesus
heard how John the Baptist was beheaded.
When he heard this, Jesus departed to a place away from ministry, crowds
and responsibilities. Jesus was fully
human. Jesus sets an example for us in
this response to the horrific death of his cousin. He shows us that we may need to set aside
some time to grieve and process losses and horrific news. Jesus made a choice to be alone with His
Father after such news. We are allowed
to grieve and we are more than allowed time to process things apart from social
obligations. If you get bad news and you
sense a desire to get away for a while, Jesus’ example frees us to pursue this.
