Proverbs - Financial Wisdom

Proverbs 22:26 -27

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

This is a warning concerning contracts and co-signing.  They are both things that pull us in to a commitment we are obliged to see through.  This verse is telling us that if we avoid unnecessary contracts and being collateral for someone else, we won’t have the concern of having what we own taken away from us.  Our belongings will not be tied to a debt whether it is ours or someone else’s.  We learn that life is less complicated if we can pay as we go and not buy something until we save up for it.  We also learn of the seriousness of co-signing for someone.   We are responsible for that debt if our name is on that loan.  Do you want to complicate your life with such a commitment?   Seek the Lord on such matters to know if you are in a place to get involved in sort of contract or co-signing situation.  You might be in a place where you have no concern about your bed being taken from you.  You might be financially well off to enter these sorts of things well able to take care of them.  Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths.
