Proverbs - The Instructed Heart

Proverbs 23:12

Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

It is important for us to connect instruction with our hearts and not just our minds.  The heart is at the center of our affection.  In order to experience the transformation the Lord wants for us we must love instruction.  We must maintain a teachable spirit and understand that we don’t always understand.  Our ears must listen for knowledge that we don’t have and our hearts should jump at the chance to learn it.  Application involves using what we learn and loving the opportunity to put something into practice.  When we see something in the word, or see someone’s example, we should leap at the chance to put it into practice.  Also, practical matters of home making, child rearing, financial wisdom, health knowledge and other matters should be treasured.  By applying our hearts and ears to learn something new, our lives will consist of wisdom and practices that make them abundant and satisfying.  Life will never get old and our lives will continually improve.
