Proverbs - Accepting and Overthrowing

                                                                     Proverbs 18:5

It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

Awards and accolades are given to all kinds of people in our society for various achievements.  Although many of their talents and efforts are of a high caliber, we, as believers, must guard our hearts when it comes to esteem and acceptance.  We are told by the Lord that it is not good to accept the person of the wicked.  When we begin to admire those who are living or espousing values that God says are wicked, our inner gauge of righteousness can be dulled and confused.  No matter how popular or accepted a person is, if they are wicked, we cannot hold them in an accepted regard.

Also, if someone is doing what is right according to the Lord, we are not to evaluate and shoot down what they are doing.  If our husbands make a call in our home that is on the level with God’s standard of righteousness, it is not good if we judge how he implements it and not cooperate with his leading.  If someone is in the news because of their radical stance according to this world, we must not agree with the world’s judgment but rather esteem them and pray for them.

Lord, help us esteem and accept the things in a person that you esteem and accept.  Help us be sensitive to any sort of confusion within us in respect of regard or value.  Help us see clearly what may be according to the prince of the power of the air and what is rooted in Your eternal truths.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen
