Proverbs - Don't Trust in Wealth

Proverbs 18:11

The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

When someone is used to having the resources to solve life’s problems, they could accidentally begin to trust in those resources rather than the One who gave them to him.  When someone has a security system in their home they might begin to rest peacefully trusting in the technology that keeps unwanted guests out rather than the One who allowed them the privilege of having such protection.  We see in Job’s life, that in a moment, that which we enjoy can be taken away.  The Lord gives, the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord.  If you or I find ourselves being provided for or protected today we must lift up our eyes and worship the One who is behind it all.  He is our strong city, He is our shield.  Throughout the day today, it would be healthy for us to thank and praise Him for all that we consider protection or provision.  When we take that sip of coffee, when we put on our seat belt, when we lock the front door, let us thank the Lord for His presence, provision and protection.
