Proverbs - Excuses, Excuses

Proverbs 22:13

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

Slothfulness always gives us reasons why we shouldn’t work.  Most of us just wouldn’t obey a voice telling us to be lazy and just don’t do it.  We need to be persuaded by a rather grand excuse.  Here the man is concerned that there is a lion out there and if they go to work they risk injury.  Note that the excuse is not a might, but I SHALL be slain.  Slothfulness makes excuses that are defined by a stubbornness and negativity resulting in apathy and disobedience.  Ladies, when those dishes need to be done, we ought not to tell ourselves that a glass is in there and we WILL be cut by it if it breaks.  Ladies, if the bathroom needs to be cleaned, ignore the constant reasons why you shouldn’t do it and just go do it.  There is great reward in working hard.  It makes our homes so inviting, we burn calories and we have a strong sense of accomplishment.  As soon as those excuses come up in your mind, ignore them and be about your business as the keeper at home.  These lion excuses are just that, excuses that keep us ‘lion’ around and not getting things done.
